๐Ÿค‘ Silicon Valley made two new billionaires overnight...

And the stock started falling the next morning.

Cerebras Systems (CBRS), a Silicon Valley AI chip startup competing directly with Nvidia (NVDA), priced its IPO at $185 on Wednesday night.

โ€‹
Thursday's opening bell?

โ€‹
$350. The stock closed Day 1 at $331.07, up 68%.

โ€‹
Market cap: $95 billion.

โ€‹
$5.55 billion raised. Biggest U.S. tech haul since Uber (UBER) in 2019.

โ€‹
It also handed CEO Andrew Feldman a $3.2 billion stake and CTO Sean Lie a $1.7 billion one. Two billionaires before lunch.

โ€‹
Then Friday came...

โ€‹
CBRS opened up 6%, then pulled back to -2.6%.

โ€‹
Davidson analysts called the wafer-scale chip "niche-y," noting the tech is still in "early stages of maturity" and less flexible than what's already out there.

โ€‹
Their take?

โ€‹
"Wouldn't get too excited."

โ€‹
Now you see why the stock's wobbling.

โ€‹
CBRS's bet is that its single-wafer chips run AI faster than Nvidia's GPUs. NVDA's bet is that everyone else's chips can't catch up.

โ€‹
NVDA reports earnings May 20 and the timing lines up with a window NVDA usually runs.

โ€‹
๐Ÿฅก
The Takeaway: Watch NVDA earnings on May 20 to see whether AI hardware demand still has fuel, because if NVDA's numbers come in lower than expected, CBRS will get hit twice as hard as the new kid on the block.

๐Ÿ›’ Your grocery bill just got a raise...

And your paycheck didn't get the memo.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), the government's scorecard for how much everyday goods and services cost, rose 3.8% over the past year in April.

โ€‹
That's the highest reading since May 2023.

โ€‹
Let's talk numbers...

โ€‹
Energy prices jumped 17.9% over the past year. Gasoline alone: up 28.4% annually. Shelter costs climbed 0.6% in a single month. Airline tickets are up 20.7% year over year.

โ€‹
But here's the one that stings...

โ€‹
For the first time in three years, inflation is outpacing wages. Real average hourly earnings fell 0.3% annually, meaning the raise you got this year bought you less than last year.

โ€‹
Wall Street felt it immediately. Stock futures turned negative, Treasury yields (the interest rate the government pays on its debt) jumped, and traders started pricing in roughly 30% odds of a Fed interest rate hike (a move that makes borrowing more expensive) by year-end.

โ€‹
That's new. The Fed (the U.S. central bank that controls interest rates) has kept rates steady all year.

โ€‹
The Iran war is behind a lot of this: oil has topped $100 a barrel and gas is averaging $4.50 a gallon nationally.

โ€‹
๐Ÿฅก
The Takeaway: Watch for any change in Fed language at the next meeting, because if rate hike odds cross 50%, real estate stocks and high-growth tech names take the biggest hit, since their value depends on cheap borrowing staying cheap.

๐Ÿ›ซ Toupee Fiasco rolled up to Beijing with backup...

And the lineup wasn't politicians.

Toupee Fiasco (Trump) landed in Beijing on Wednesday for a two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

โ€‹
The squad on the tarmac: Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia (NVDA) boss Jensen Huang, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Boeing (BA) CEO Kelly Ortberg.

โ€‹
The welcome party had a brass band and flag wavers. Someone told the ceremony team this was a big deal.

โ€‹
By Friday, the summit had wrapped. Here's what landed...

โ€‹
NVDA got the green light to sell its H200 AI chips to major Chinese companies. Tech stocks rallied on the news.

โ€‹
China agreed to order 200 Boeing jets. Less than the 500 some expected, but still 200 planes.

โ€‹
Toupee Fiasco also said China would help on Iran and buy U.S. oil, though Beijing hasn't confirmed.

โ€‹
Both sides agreed to a 3-year "strategic stability" framework, and Xi is set to visit the U.S. on September 24.

โ€‹
The one thing nobody touched? Taiwan. Xi warned mishandling it would put the relationship in "great jeopardy." Washington said nothing back.

โ€‹
The chip deal puts NVDA right back in focus, and the timing lines up with a window NVDA usually runs.

โ€‹
๐Ÿฅก
The Takeaway: Watch NVDA and BA to see if the H200 deal and the 200-jet order hold the rally or fade as the summit headlines cool off.
