๐ข๏ธ 400 million barrels dropped...
And the market filed it under 'so what'
The IEA (International Energy Agency, a group of 30+ wealthy nations with emergency oil stockpiles on deck) made the biggest reserve release โน๏ธ in its history.
โ 400 million barrels of oil.
โ The US added another 172 million from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the countryโs emergency oil stash.
โ Oil prices went up anyway.
โ WTI (US crude) climbed 7.5% to $93.8 a barrel Thursday.
โ Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose 7.74% to $99.1.
โ Why?
โ The Strait of Hormuz is the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman moving about 20% of the worldโs oil every single day. The US-Iran war started February 28 and brought shipping through it to a near standstill.
โ The reserve release wonโt close the gap.
โ Analysts say the Strait moves close to 20 million barrels a day. Even the biggest release in IEA history only covers about 20 days of whatโs been lost.
โ None of it reaches buyers quickly either. Analysts estimate it takes 60 to 90 days for the oil to meaningfully hit the market.
โ โPrices right now are still in panic mode,โ said Pavel Molchanov, senior investment strategist at Raymond James.
โ Energy stocks like the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) have been moving with every headline out of the Middle East.
โ ๐ฅก The Takeaway: The government threw its biggest punches and oil shrugged. Watch for news about the Strait of Hormuz reopening. Itโs the one event with the power to pull prices back down.
โน๏ธ What's that?โ A reserve release is when governments tap their emergency stockpiles and pump stored oil into the market to push prices back down. |
๐ฐ Oracle answered the call...
And Wall Street let out a deep breath.
โ Oracle (ORCL) stock jumped 12% after Q3 earnings gave Wall Street exactly what it needed.
โ Hereโs whatโs been going downโฆ
โ Back in February, Oracle announced a plan to raise up to $50 billion in 2026 through a mix of debt and equity to fund their AI data center buildout. Investors got nervous.
โ Then OpenAI pulled out of an expansion in Abilene, Texas, and the worry got louder.
โ But Tuesdayโs earnings call flipped the script.
โ CEO Clayton Magouyrk said no more debt raises in 2026 beyond what was already announced. โOur operating model is optimized to ensure profitability,โ he told analysts.
โ Then came the receipts.
โ Oracle signed more than $29 billion in new contracts.
โ They delivered 90% of their 400-megawatt data centers on or ahead of schedule.
โ And their remaining performance obligations, which are future contracts already locked in, more than quadrupled to $553 billion.
โ Not a company in trouble.
โ They also named Cerebras chips alongside Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD (AMD) on the call, a signal the AI chip race has more players than Wall Street expected.
โ ๐ฅก The Takeaway: Oracle walked in with receipts and shut down every question about their AI debt plan. Watch ORCL for follow-through. Keep NVDA on your radar. Nvidiaโs GTC conference is next week and a new chip announcement is the next catalyst to watch.

๐ Squashed the beef...
Hims & Hers (HIMS) climbed 43% Monday after Novo Nordisk (NVO) dropped its patent infringement lawsuit.
โ In exchange?
โ Hims agreed to sell branded Ozempic and Wegovy through its platform at the same price as other telehealth providers, and stop advertising compounded GLP-1 drugs altogether.
โ Hereโs whatโs been going downโฆ
โ Back in February, Novo sued Hims after the telehealth company announced a $49 copycat version of the Wegovy pill, roughly $100 less than Novoโs own price on its direct-to-consumer platform. The FDA stepped in, called it illegal, and referred Hims to the Department of Justice.
โ Hims pulled the pill fast.
โ This isnโt their first rodeo together, either. Novo and Hims tried a partnership last year for discounted weight loss injections. Novo ended it two months in, saying Hims used โdeceptiveโ marketing that put patients at risk.
โ โItโs a very different situation than the last time,โ Novo CEO Mike Doustdar told CNBC.
โ NVO ticked up 1.5% on the news but HIMS was the winner here.
โ And Eli Lilly (LLY)? Still cooking.
โ An oral weight loss pill called orforglipron is expected to hit the market in Q2, pending FDA approval, and our algorithm shows an upward trend lining up this week.
โ ๐ฅก The Takeaway: HIMS cleared its biggest legal cloud and now sells branded Novo drugs through its platform. Watch if the stock holds its 43% gain or gives some back as traders decide if this new business model is worth the premium.
