πŸ•ŠοΈ Toupee Fiasco's sudden change of heart...

And Iran's already side-eyeing it.

Toupee Fiasco (Trump) called off a planned attack on Iran, saying he’d reached the outline of a deal with Tehran and its neighbors.

The big ask is a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the lane for a fifth of world oil, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.

Iran wasn’t here for it.

Its Fars News Agency called the terms a β€œwish list,” and Iran’s defense minister backed that up, calling it psychological warfare while admitting they’re taking it seriously.

Turns out that wasn’t just talk.

A week later, there’s still no deal. Iran and Oman say a shipping-route framework is close, but Iran’s security chief says the Strait doesn’t fully reopen until the U.S. pays for war damage and unfreezes Iran’s assets.

Then a Houthi missile hit a Saudi oil tanker, and oil prices snapped right back up after sliding on peace hopes.

This war has broken more ceasefires than it’s kept.

Not a great track record.

It started February 28, and U.S. strikes on Revolutionary Guard targets brought Iran’s missile attacks on U.S. bases in Kuwait and Bahrain right back.

Same movie, different weekend.

WTI’s trading near $78 a barrel and Brent’s near $83, both still down from pre-war highs but whipsawing every time the deal talk shifts.

Exxon (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) banked big profits off higher oil prices.

Reopen Hormuz for good, and that boost flips against them.

πŸ₯‘
The Takeaway: Watch WTI (near $78) and Brent (near $83). Iran says the Strait stays shut until the U.S. meets its demands, so oil keeps whipsawing until a real deal closes, not just a framework.

πŸ’Š AstraZeneca's answer to a rough month...

And it doesn't come cheap.

AstraZeneca (AZN) is reportedly in early talks to buy Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY), and the price tag being thrown around is roughly $400 billion.

That would make it one of the biggest pharma buyouts ever.

The timing isn't random.

AZN's stock just had its worst day since Covid after its heart drug trial missed its main target last month, and investors started asking hard questions about what else the company has in the works.

Buying BMY's cancer drug lineup answers that with a checkbook instead of a press release.

Nothing's signed.

This is the Financial Times reporting talks, not a done deal, and deals this size take months to firm up, if they firm up at all.

Still, the market doesn't wait for ink to dry.

BMY jumped on buyout hope, AZN dipped because someone has to foot the bill, and the rest of the drug sector starts running the math on who's next.

AZN's finance chief has already gone on record saying they're confident about hitting an $80 billion sales target by 2030.

A deal like this would be one very expensive way to get there.

πŸ₯‘
The Takeaway: Watch AZN and BMY for the next headline confirming or killing the talks, because a $400 billion deal like this either answers AZN's critics or falls apart and leaves those questions hanging.

πŸ€ The Suns owner just got dunked on...

And this time it's his mortgage company taking the L.

UWM Holdings (UWMC), the biggest mortgage lender in the country, fell 40% in a single day.

The company just suspended its dividend and brought in $2.05 billion from outside investors to help steady its finances.

CEO Mat Ishbia called it "decisive action to make UWM stronger."

Decisive is one word for it.

Here's where the money actually came from...

Oaktree Capital Management put in part of it, and the rest came from a new firm set up by Ishbia's family, who also own the NBA's Phoenix Suns.

UWMC is now down about 85% from the high it hit back in September 2025.

Zoom out, and it's bigger than one company...

Mortgage lenders everywhere are stuck in one of the roughest stretches in years.

Treasury yields, the interest rates the government pays to borrow money, have been climbing on bets the Fed keeps rates higher for longer, which drags mortgage rates up, keeping buyers on the sidelines.

Here's why the money got tight...

What UWM has left after covering what it owes dropped to about $1 billion this quarter, down from $1.6 billion three months earlier.

The company lost $451.9 million on $888 million of revenue that quarter.

Not exactly a comeback season.

A year earlier, UWM made $314.5 million in profit, and just one quarter before that, it made $170.4 million.

πŸ₯‘
The Takeaway: Watch whether UWMC can find a floor after this 85% drop, because another quarter like Q2 would test even a family willing to bail out its own company.
